Julia Child's French Omelette

I know this doesn't belong to anything in particular, but I thought it kinda went with this blog anyway.  The other day, my mom and I were watching original videos on youtube of Julia Child's cooking show and one of them that was really great was where she was making an omelette.  She says "How about dinner in half a minute?  How about a last minute dinner party, for 300 people?  How about and omelette?"  And it's true... I think it's the fastest way to cook an egg.  She finished the omelette in about the same amount of time it took her to say that.  Watch this video I have attached.  It's really good.  So, I tried to make her omelette one morning, and voila!  It worked perfectly.  And, it was SO delicious.  And it was super fun to make because it made me feel like some kind of real cook or something, with the egg getting swirled all around your pan and stuff.  Really.  Try it.  And, you should eat it with some pancakes that I just discovered.  I think my Uncle Aaron made up the recipe.  I wrote more about it in my other blog.  I'll leave a link to that, too.  What a great breakfast that would be, with some toast or bacon on the side and a tall glass of OJ!

Roald Dahl

Boy, I sure am lucky!!  Guess what... September is Roald Dahl month!  (according to his website)  So, it would only be fitting for me to do the Roald Dahl children's book challenge this month.
Roald Dahl is my favorite children's author, and I read many of his books when I was younger.  I still own some of them... I'll have to track them down and re-read them soon!

Here is a list of what I'll be reading this month: (remember, these are only his children's books)

The Gremlins (1943)
James and the Giant Peach (1961)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964)

The Minpins (1991)

Children's Poetry:

Rhyme Stew (1989)

Seven of these books have been made into movies: Matilda, The BFG, The Witches, Danny the Champion of the World, Fantastic Mr. Fox, James and the Giant Peach, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (x2).  If I have time, maybe I'll check these out too after I've read the matching book.

More about Roald Dahl to come.

Projects I've Already Completed

I was thinking about stuff I've already done, and I here is the list I came up with:

-I listened to all 32 Beethoven Sonatas
-I took all the classes necessary for a Bachelor's degree and graduated (does that count?)
-I took every class you can take at BYU-Idaho as a pianist (except for Jazz Band)
-I read all 7 Harry Potter books

I'll update this later if I think of any more.

Introduction

Hi. My name is Mandy and after watching the movie "Julie & Julia" last week, I have been inspired to do my own spin-off of it. (Although I doubt my blog will get anywhere near as huge as Julie Powell's did!) Here are the first few things I thought of:
-Try every flavor of Ben & Jerry's ice cream
-Read every book written by Roald Dahl
-Eat my way through a restaurant menu
-Cook my way through a cookbook. (As a tribute to Julie & Julia, but I'll be honest, "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" seems pretty daunting).
I'll work on a couple at a time, and blog about what I finish. Also, to keep up interest, I'll work on one shorter project and one longer project, so I can keep motivated.
Ideas? Suggestions? Comments? I'd love to hear them.
